Geotrip of the IAH Karst Commission in karst of Romania and Serbia, June 2019

The Karst Commission of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) in close cooperation with the Karst Commission of Serbian Geological Society and IAH National Chapter for Serbia has organized and successfully conducted Geotrip in the terrains of Carpathian Karst of Romania and Serbia. This event organized by joint effort of Romanian and Serbian hydrogeologists ook place between 14 and 18 June, 2019, and was an introduction to the 4th Conference of the Central European Group of IAH.

Geotrip was attended by 26 members and friends of the Karst Commission arrived from 11 countries (Albania, Brazil, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Russia, Slovakia, Romania and Serbia).

The Programme was the following:

14/06 Arrival to Belgrade and bus transfer to Donji Milanovac (overnight stay).
15/06 Donji Milanovac – Crossing Romanian border at Djerdap Dam on Danube (Port de Fier) – Turnu Severin, meeting with group of Romanian colleagues – Ponoarele (Lake Zaton, God’s stone bridge, karrenfeld, Podului cave) – Izvarna karst spring (supplying water to the city of Craiova) –Tismana Monastery – Sohodol / Runcu gorges and spring Valceaua (supplying potable water to the city of Tirgu Jiu) – Tirgu Jiu (overnight stay).
16/06 Trgu Jiu (Monumental complex “The Heroes Path” of Brancusi) – Muierilor cave – Polovragi cave and Oltet gorge – Olari (Horezu) pottery village – Horezu Monastery, UNESCO heritage site – Costesti village with Trovants Museum Natural Reserve (cemented big blocks in sands) – Ramnicu Valcea (overnight stay).
17/06 Ocnele Mari salt mine – Craiova – Oprisor Winery – Turnu Severin – Crossing border to Serbia – Donji Milanovac (overnight stay).
18/06 Valja prerast stone bridge – Majdanpek copper mine field – Rajkova cave – Boljetin River geological cross – section – Lepenski Vir archeological site – Donji Milanovac (overnight stay).
19/06 Djerdap National Park Visitor center – Presentation of activities and nomination for UNESCO Geo Park – CEG Conference presentations I and II sessions – Boat tour over Danube gorge – Donji Milanovac (overnight stay).
20/06 Golubački grad fortress on Danube and Viminacium Roman Limes military camp archeological site – arrival to Belgrade.
