Charter "Academician Ljubomir Klerić" Awarded to the Serbian Geological Society
In his address at the ceremony held on 21 October 2016 in the conference hall of the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade on the occasion of 125 years of the founding of our Society, Prof. Dr Slobodan Vujić, member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia (AESS) informed the guests and participants that the Department of Mining, Geological and System Sciences of AESS has awarded the Serbian Geological society the Charter "Academician Prof. Dr Ljubomir Klerić". The charter was awarded "on the occasion of 125 years of existence, for scientific, engineering and educational contribution to geology and mining."
Dr Ljubomir Klerić (1844-1910) was one of our most prominent scientists and mining experts at the turn of two centuries. Educated in Serbia, Germany and Switzerland, with extensive experience gained in German and Czech mines, he returned to Serbia and worked on geological research and the opening of a metallic raw materials mine. He was elected a member of the Serbian Learned Society in 1872 and the Serbian Royal Academy in 1877. He is the author of several patents, textbooks and scientific papers.
